Sea Lion Swimming Club was formed in 1958 so that anyone of any age with a temporary or permanent disability could swim in safety and to promote their enjoyment of the water. Swimming is an excellent sport for improving stamina, suppleness and strength. Restrictions you may have on land are released as the water supports the weight of your body. It is one form of exercise that allows anyone who has a disability to benefit from the freedom provided by the water.
The club benefits from an excellent group of volunteer helpers who are available to provide assistance and support to all members, as required. They organize fun activities in the second half of the session for those who wish to join in.
The club has a comprehensive range of specialized equipment, including a wide range of floatation aids and a hoist to assist members in and out of the water.
President of Sea Lion Swimming Club is Chairman of Watford Council.
Opened in 2008, Watford Leisure Centre - CENTRAL has a main pool and a learner pool. The main pool has 6 lanes x 25 metres and has a 1.0m - 1.8m depth. The learner pool depth is 1.0m - 1.2m. A hoist is available for those who need it. Wet and dry changing rooms are available and lockers are £1, refundable. Sea Lion Swimming Club have exclusive use of both pools.
There is free parking available at the site for a maximum of 3 hours stay. Visitors are asked to take a ticket - one part is displayed in the vehicle and the other given to the reception staff on leaving the leisure centre, in exchange for an exit token.
If you don't fancy swimming!
In addition to our swimming activities the sports hall is now available to us every week during the Saturday swimming session for badminton (racquets and shuttlecocks supplied) and a variety of other games and activities. Consult our noticeboard in the foyer or ask one of the helpers for details.
Note: you will need to bring appropriate clothing for these activities (including shoes with non-marking soles).
Each year Sea Lion Swimming Club organize social activities outside swimming sessions.
Check back later to see what we have planned for 2015.
